Simulation Horizon

Oasis Climate simulates the future over a finite time horizon, typically ranging from several hours to one day.

The Trade-off

The length of the simulation horizon involves a critical trade-off:

Longer horizons better capture the home's thermal inertia but increase the impact of forecast uncertainty.
Shorter horizons are more reactive to immediate conditions but less able to make long-term anticipatory decisions.

The optimal horizon is configurable and depends on the specific control strategy being used.
